There are a lot of things we like modern-first TikTok, Netflix and Hallmark Christmas movies. However, although we live the best technically assisted life here, it is occasionally worth remembering that some modern conveniences are not always better than old-fashioned options. To prove this, you don't need to look further than the laundry room. Although washing machines and dryers are one of the greatest inventions of all time, they are not always the best choice. Certain fabrics, materials and objects are best cleaned in the old fashioned way. There are many things that cannot be put in the washing machine (looking at you, sequins), but there are also many things that must not be put in the dryer. Instead, they should be placed flat on a drying rack, or hung on a line like grandma used to.

The following are some items that must not be put into the dryer:

When your favorite one or bikini is wet and you need to go to the pool or beach, it may be tempting to throw them in the dryer, but resist the urge. The heat and rotation of the dryer can destroy swimsuits faster than Marco Polo. To avoid stretching and sagging suits, hang them to dry.

Although those lucky baseball caps can ensure that the favorite team wins (what qualifications do we have to argue with superstition?), they do need to be cleaned frequently. Clean them locally with soapy water and then air dry, as the heat of the dryer can cause them to deform.

There is no doubt that underwear, bras and underwear will get dirty, but they are not the easiest things to clean. They usually need to be washed by hand or at least put in an underwear bag, and undergo a delicate cycle. They should also be air-dried because the heat will destroy elasticity, spandex, lycra, lace and almost everything else that enters the underwear.

Although those running shoes that are frequently used can (and should) be placed in the washing machine, it is best not to use the dryer. Heat can cause the shoes to deform, deform, or, worst of all, the shoes can fall apart. Instead, let them air dry near the heater or in direct sunlight.

This intricate fabric is both beautiful and delicate, so hand washing is the key. To help the lace maintain its shape, keep it away from the dryer, because strong heat will weaken the slender thread, and continuous movement will cause the thread to jam or tear. Instead, remove excess water by gently wrapping it in a towel and then drying it on the bathroom or clothesline.

These luxurious fabrics should rarely enter the washing machine or dryer, because water will stain them, heat will dry them and cause them to crack. Instead, take them to a dry cleaner.

This leather substitute should never be put in the dryer, because the heat can cause the fabric to warp and wrinkle, making it from fashionable to non-wearing.

To make your velvet look and feel the best, skip the dryer, which will destroy the soft fluff of the fabric. Instead, just lay it flat on a clothes rack or table, let it air dry and use steam to remove wrinkles.

This delicate fabric can be washed gently, but it must not be machine-dried. Instead, gently remove excess water by carefully wrapping, folding, and absorbing water in a towel. Then stay away from the sun (bathroom work!) to dry without fading.

Loose tights are usually not what anyone wants when they wear clothes in the morning. To avoid stretching of tights, please keep them away from the dryer. The elastic bands in the tights will warp and relax due to heat, causing the tights to deform.

Continue to gently wash your bath towel, but if it has rubber or other non-slip backing, do not put it in the dryer. The heat can cause the rubber to melt, which will not only damage the carpet but also the dryer.
